Maple Ridge Culture Plan Wins Award of Excellence-Cultural Planning at 2019 Creative Cities Summit

 

Nordicity is proud to share that City of Maple Ridge's Culture Plan 2017-2027 has won the Award of Excellence- Cultural Planning from the Creative Cities Network of Canada (CCNC) at the 2019 Creative Cities Summit in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The Award of Excellence – Cultural Planning recognizes a Canadian municipality that has developed, adopted, and implemented a culture plan with a process that demonstrates outstanding visionary leadership and best practices in cultural planning. Key eligibility criteria includes embodying a collaborative processes of public engagement which champions accessibility, diversity and inclusivity; strategic integration with local government services; and, contribution to the vitality of the community through integration of all aspects of sustainability (cultural, social, economic and environmental).

Led by Patricia Huntsman Culture + Communications, in partnership with Nordicity, Maple Ridge Culture Plan: Walking Together – Growing Connections Through Culture aims to establish a framework for the City's future vision, policy and action plan for arts and culture for the next ten years. The planning process involved an extensive public engagement process to facilitate community dialogue and form guiding principles, strategic priorities and an implementation framework to guide the City's arts and culture services. Nordicity’s digital survey addressed further lines of qualitative inquiry, including assessment of community need, Social Return on Investment (SROI,  and cultural asset mapping.

By aiming to strengthen, harmonize and raise the profile of the City’s cultural ecosystem, Walking Together – Growing Connections Through Culture builds on the community aspiration to celebrate Maple Ridge’s unique assets as a rapidly growing, diverse ‘edge city’.
