Nordicity to conduct an Economic Impact Evaluation of Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) VR/AR/XR Event (VIFF Immersed)

Nordicity has been commissioned by the VEC to undertake an economic impact evaluation (EIA) to better understand Vancouver’s evolving entertainment-based Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Cross/Extended Reality (XR) business and innovation ecosystem.

Vancouver is the #2 immersive content ecosystem in the world, providing VIFF with the unique opportunity to take leadership roles in positioning the city as the worldwide hub for XR entertainment-based content.

As a key initiative to build the sector in Vancouver (and BC), VIFF Immersed is a three-year project that aims to establish the international marketplace for entertainment-based XR Vancouver. Not only is VIFF Immersed perfectly situated to be a key driver in the development of immersive technology as a means for storytelling, but it can represent the “best of the best” in a dynamically changing and innovative industry. It is also backed by VIFF’s track record of focusing on VR as an emerging storytelling platform since 2014.

VIFF Immersed is well-placed to bring new opportunities for growth for IP development and creative industries diversification in both BC and the rest of Canada – by connecting commercially viable immersive content with buyers and distributors, reaching audiences to drive technology sales, and new content development. In order to better understand its position in the global market, Nordicity will conduct and impact assessment of VIFF Immersed, including the economic value generated through potential business generated at the event.

The project will conclude in February of 2020.Nordicity’s Project Manager for this project is Chad Rickaby: crickaby@nordicity.com
