Nordicity explores Canada’s TV broadcasting policy
Nordicity principals discuss the future of Canada’s TV broadcasting policy at the Insight Information conference, “Telecommunications and Broadcasting, Current Regulatory Issues and Policy”
OTTAWA — May 1, 2007 — Peter Lyman (Senior Partner, Nordicity Group Ltd.) and Lorne Abugov (Partner, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP) co-chaired the Insight Information conference, “Telecommunications and Broadcasting, Current Regulatory Issues and Policy” held April 30 and May 1 in Ottawa, Ontatrio.
During this two-day conference, delegates from the Canadian telecommunications and broadcasting industries met to discuss many of the current regulatory and policy issues facing the industries. Terri Wills (Manager, Nordicity Group Ltd.) and Dustin Chodorowicz (Director, Nordicity Group Ltd.) were among the conference panelists.
Ms. Wills participated in the panel titled, “The CRTC Review of Television and Beyond.” She reviewed the recent trends and developments in the consumption of television content and discussed the implications for Canadian television broadcasters, broadcasting distribution undertakings, and industry regulation and policy. Mr. Chodorowicz’s presentation titled, "Foreign Ownership and Consolidation in Canadian Broadcasting" is also available at Nordicity’s web site. In the presentation, Mr. Chodorowicz addresses the question of whether or not the federal government and regulator should re-visit Canada’s existing policies on foreign ownership and consolidation in the television broadcasting industry.
