Metcalf Foundation: Impact Investing and Canada’s Cultural Sector

Nordicity to Lead Metcalf Foundation’s Initiative to Bolster Social Finance for Arts and Culture

In a pioneering move to strengthen the arts and culture sector through innovative financing, Nordicity has been commissioned by the Metcalf Foundation – in partnership with the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts – to launch an action research project exploring the integration of social finance within the arts and culture sector.

The primary objective of this work is to evaluate the current funding gap, to consider how arts and cultural organizations can effectively engage with social finance, and to facilitate access to investment resources and peer-learning opportunities. The initiative also offers a unique opportunity for asset holders and donors to explore collaborative approaches to mission-aligned investment.

Ultimately, this exploratory research project will test the viability of alternative financing in the arts, identify key steps for its successful deployment, and in the longer-term, contribute to a more vibrant and sustainable arts and culture sector in Canada.
