Nordicity is pleased to have been chosen by the City of Surrey to develop a comprehensive Music Strategy to help identify priorities, provide directions, and anticipate challenges ahead in developing and supporting the City’s music ecosystem.
Surrey is one of the fastest growing, culturally diverse cities in Canada. Emerging as Metro Vancouver’s second downtown, Surrey is becoming a thriving hub for cultural activity, artistic talent, and economic prosperity. The City recognizes the cultural and social benefits that music brings to its community, and therefore the need to build the vibrancy of its music economy.
Utilizing a three-phase project approach, the Nordicity Project Team will undertake research and discovery, community engagement, strategic analysis, and reporting. The Project Team will advise City staff on the current state of Surrey’s music economy by conducting a rigorous spatial analysis on current space venue assets, an audience analysis on its demographic characteristics, and an economic impact assessment to understand the direct, indirect, and induced effects of the industry (including those driven by music tourism).
The Music Strategy will create a compelling picture of the needs and directions including recommendations for tracking the City’s progress.
