Big Turnout at Nordicity Open House in Red Deer, AB

On December 6th Nordicity analysts Megan Lynch and Chad Rickaby hosted a public open house consultation in Red Deer, AB. The event was part of the community engagement phase of the ongoing Cultural Facilities Needs Assessment that Nordicity is conducting with the City of Red Deer.

Nearly 100 people came out and participated in a “dotmocracy” exercise, which asked respondents to prioritize the research findings thus far by placing a dot sticker onto coloured charts.

This open house took place in the lobby of the Servus Arena, which in part contributed to its success as it allowed for participation from a diverse group of individuals, many of whom were outside of the arts and culture sector.

Nordicity has recently hosted similar engagements in the Town of Innisfil, ON as part of the development of a Culture Master Plan. Like in Red Deer, several open house consultations have produced a wide variety of insights from an enthusiastic community.

Public open house consultations like these are an integral part of Nordicity’s information collection process on certain projects as they reaffirm Nordicity’s belief that arts and culture initiatives are meant to be beneficial to all in a community.
